These Shims are used when rekeying most residential and commercial locks. If you do not have a working key to the lock you can use these to help rekey it anyways. If you do have a working key these can be used as a safety measure when removing the cylinder so that top pins don’t fall between your plug follower and the cylinder plug. The curved design allows them to fit between the cylinder plug and housing without any difficulty.
